We provide norwegian online course at beginner level A1. This course is for those who want a thorough and practical introduction to the language. The aim is for you to be able to express yourself quickly in simple everyday situations.
About the course:
Language teaching is communicative. You are encouraged to use the Norwegian language actively in practical situations from everyday life and you will have many opportunities to practice and use the language.
Content:
This course is suitable for those who have little or no prior knowledge of Norwegian, and who want a good basis for being able to communicate with Norwegian speakers. What you learn at the beginner level also serves as a good starting point for further Norwegian learning, both for studies and/or in a work context.
You will learn:
• Basic grammar and pronunciation
• Words and expressions related to being able to talk about yourself and ask others about themselves
• Words and expressions related to everyday situations
• How to ask and answer questions, express agreement / disagreement
• How to write simple texts
• How to read simple texts such as short messages and instructions etc.
• How to participate in very simple, common everyday situations when others speak clearly
Gjennomføringen:
At Folkeuniversitetet, we use task-based learning as our pedagogical approach for language teaching. This means that we place great emphasis on communication, interaction and practical language use. The lessons aim to improve the four main skills of language learning: listening, reading, speaking and writing. This is achieved through pair/group work, presentations and role-playing. The activities reflect common situations and contexts when using the target language in everyday life.

Prerequisites:
• There are no requirements for prior knowledge of the norwegian language for the A1 level, but you should know the Latin alphabet.
Course material:
We use the textbook and workbook "På vei" (2018) by Elisabeth Ellingsen and Kirsti Mac Donald. Course material is not included in the course price.***** For all A1 courses starting in November 2025 and later, we will use the new edition of the textbook and workbook “På vei” (2025).*****
Examination:
Our courses follow the curriculum in Norwegian for adult immigrants in accordance with the Integration Act. The educational organization Folkeuniversitetet is an approved provider of Norwegian language and social studies courses, pursuant to regulations from HK-dir and the Directorate of Integration and Diversity (IMDi) and offers language training in accordance with the Council of Europe’s language proficiency scale - the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
After completing the course, you can request a course certificate confirming your attendance in your user account. There is no exam at the end of the course. While our courses do not prepare participants for a specific exam, they align with the levels of Norskprøven which is an accredited Norwegian exam.
