The D5L certificate is required in order to operate a recreational craft with a hull length of 15 meters and upwards, but less than 24 meters, in the trade area Great Coasting. The course is mainly theoretical (six subjects/105 classes) but also practical training
(two subjects/17 classes).
The course consists of 120 classes (each 45 min.) divided between eight subjects followed by a written exam for each of the six theoretical subjects:
Navigation
Navigational aids
Rules of the road at sea and navigational watch requirements
Ship stabilities
Safety and security
Technology and machinery studies
Navigational aids in practice
Handling the craft and navigation
Both the practictical subjects and exams require physical attendence.
