The accordion is a versatile and expressive musical instrument that has played an important role in folk music traditions around the world. It was invented in Europe during the 19th century and quickly became popular among working-class musicians who were drawn to its portability and ability to produce a full and rich sound. In the United States, the accordion was especially popular among immigrant communities, who used it to play traditional folk music from their home countries. Today, the accordion remains an important instrument in many folk traditions, and its distinctive sound can be heard in everything from Norwegian "Reinleders", French chansons to Tex-Mex music.

Diatinic Accordion for beginners
Rannveig Djønne from Hardanger in Norway is an innovative diatonic button accordion performer with a solid foundation of traditional knowledge. Starting playing when she was eight years she has now played the box for over thirty-five years and has studied at the Ole Bull Academy. Her main project at the Ole Bull Academy was to play Hardanger fiddle tunes from the area of Hardanger and Voss on the diatonic button accordion.

She has been a Norwegian champion on her instrument twice and several times champion of the west coast. She is active both as a soloist, in a duo together with Annlaug Børsheim, and together with various other musicians. The duo Djønne&Børsheim has been touring a lot in Norway, Germany, and Scotland and has probably played over a thousand concerts together.
Rannveig loves to teach and she has been teaching a lot both in Norway (music school, the Ole Bull Academy, summer classes, and so on) in Germany, in Scotland, and in the Netherlands.

Her style of playing is unique and she is also known as a good composer. In 2011 the church in Ullensvang (Hardanger) asked if she could compose new church music based on the traditional style in Hardanger. This mass; “Folkemusikkmesse frå Hardanger” is now living its own life Hardanger, and is now finding its way to other areas. The same year Djønne was one of five musicians from the western part of Norway who got an artist prize/Scholarship from Sparebanken Vest. “A unique and sensitive musician” was some of the nice words included in the prize.

In the last years, Rannveig has been working a lot with composing music to the famous poet Ruth Lillegravens poems. This has resulted in two different concerts; «Soga om Seselja» and «Husmann». The music to «Husmann» was composed together with Annlaug Børsheim.
Her debut cd “Spelferd heim” was released in 2008 on Djønnes own record company “Djønno Records”. It got great reviews in some of Norway's largest newspapers. The duo Djønne&Børsheim released the cd “Toras Dans – populærmusikk frå Hardanger” in december 2012. It has got very good reviews both in Norway and abroad.

Diatinic Accordion Advanced
Tom Willy teaches his unique repertoire on the diatonic button accordion in G/C, composed of traditional fiddle tunes. [G/C]

Tom Willy teaches his unique repertoire on the diatonic button accordion in G/C, composed of traditional fiddle tunes. Tom Willy was a pioneer in the field of migrating tunes from the fiddle to the accordion. He has a long line of successors in Norway and his style of play has been turned into a tradition of its own by now.

Here you get to dwelve into a bunch of finnskogspolses, a trippar, hamborgar and some hallings. Tom Willy explains how he uses the bass to drive the tune forward, and how even the instrument had to change to satisfy his idea of play.
