The PECB Lead Crisis Manager training course helps participants develop their competence to support an organization in planning, establishing, maintaining, reviewing, and continually improving its strategic crisis management capability based on the guidelines of ISO 22361 and other best practices.

Course description:
It also provides information regarding the fundamental concepts and principles of crisis management and the effective establishment and implementation of a crisis management framework. In addition to the explanation of the theoretical concepts related to crisis management, the training course provides practical examples and scenario-based quizzes that will help you reinforce your knowledge and prepare you for real-life scenarios concerning crisis management.

Upon the completion of the training course, participants can sit for the exam and apply to obtain the “PECB Certified Lead Crisis Manager” credential once they pass the exam. The credential demonstrates that the participant possesses the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills to support and lead an organization in designing and developing its crisis management capability based on ISO 22361 guidelines and best practices in this field.

Course objectives:
By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:
• Explain the fundamental concepts of and principles for crisis management based on ISO 22361
• Establish, maintain, and continually improve a crisis management framework that includes leadership, structure, culture, and competence.
• Anticipate, assess, prevent, and prepare for crises
• Respond to, recover, and learn from crises in order to improve an organization’s crisis management capability

Course outline:
Module 1 - Introduction to ISO 22361 and crisis management:
• The course begins with an introduction to ISO 22361 and the principles of crisis management within modern organisations. Participants explore the scope and purpose of the standard and how crisis management differs from incident management and business continuity. Key concepts, terminology and governance structures are introduced to establish a shared understanding of how crises impact organisations at strategic and operational levels. The session emphasises leadership responsibilities, decision-making under uncertainty and the importance of structured crisis management systems.

Module 2 - Crisis management framework:
• Day two focuses on establishing and implementing a structured crisis management framework. Participants examine how to define roles, responsibilities and escalation paths, ensuring clarity and accountability during crisis situations. The session explores governance models, communication protocols and coordination mechanisms that support effective crisis leadership. Integration of crisis management within existing management systems and organisational strategies is also addressed.

Module 3 - Crisis prevention and preparedness:
• This day concentrates on proactive prevention and preparedness. Participants learn how to identify vulnerabilities, assess crisis risks and establish early warning mechanisms. The development of preparedness strategies is examined in depth, including scenario planning, training programmes, crisis simulations and stakeholder communication readiness. The goal is to ensure organisations are equipped to respond decisively when disruptive events occur.

Module 4 - Crisis response and recovery:
• Day four addresses how to manage and coordinate crisis response activities. Participants explore decision-making structures, crisis communication strategies and leadership responsibilities during high-impact events. Recovery planning is examined to ensure effective stabilisation and restoration of operations following a crisis. Emphasis is placed on maintaining organisational trust, protecting reputation and learning from crisis events.

Module 5 - Certification exam:
• The final day is dedicated to exam preparation and completion of the official certification examination in accordance with certification body procedures.
