This VERITAS NetBackup 6.0 Differences course provides experienced NetBackup support staff with information on the NetBackup 6.0 architecture and major topics/features included in the NetBackup 6.0 release.


The course includes hands-on practice performing installation, configuration, administration and operations, and support activities relating to the basic NetBackup 6.0 product.

Participants will install NetBackup 6.0 and perform lab activities to configure, administer, and perform common operations using the product and to familiarize themselves with the core features and functionality of NetBackup version 6.0. This course is not intended to provide exhaustive coverage of all NetBackup 6.0 features, or to allow for hands-on practice with advanced NetBackup 6.0 options.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

* Identify the architecture and components of NetBackup 6.0 that reside on the Master Server, EMM Server, Media Server, and Client.
* Identify the process flow that occurs during basic backup and restore operations.
* Install NetBackup 6.0 Server and Client software.
* Configure NetBackup 6.0 devices, storage units, media, backup policies, and catalog backups.
* Perform basic and catalog backup and restore operations.
* Perform basic, common NetBackup administrative tasks.
* Enable and examine both traditional and VxUL debug logging.
* Perform NetBackup operations using new command line interface commands and command arguments.
* Locate and identify error messages presented in/by NetBackup 6.0.
* Perform basic troubleshooting of NetBackup 6.0 backup and restore problems.

To succeed fully in this course, students should be able to or have completed:

* NetBackup 5.0 Administration Fundamentals
* NetBackup 5.0 Advanced Support
* Process Flow and Log Analysis
* Experience providing technical support on previous versions of NetBackup
* Be familiar with the administration and configuration of a UNIX environment (Solaris OS, HP-UX, AIX), including experience developing shell scripts
