This course is designed for operations, field systems engineering, programming and technical management personnel, anyone who requires an understanding of the basic hardware, software and processes that represent the operating environment of an IBM mainframe running the z/OS operating system.

Understand the various responsibilities required to effectively create and run an IBM mainframe I/O configuration, manage work in the system, and take appropriate action when an error occurs.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
• Create basic IOCP and HCD Configurations
• Perform an Initial Program Load
• Activate a new I/O Configuration dynamically
• Use z/OS console commands to bring devices online to the system
• Use z/OS and JES2 console commands to control work in the system
• Interpret work related console messages
• Analyze I/O error situations including fiber optic link errors and take appropriate action
• Describe the various components of a Parallel Sysplex

Sun Microsystems
