This course is designed for adult immigrants who have newly arrived in Norway and who are able to study in English. The course is mandatory for those who have residency in a country outside EU/EFTA area, and want to apply for permanent residency in Norway.
The idea behind the course is to give students a comprehensive introduction to Norwegian society, the Norwegian political system, and the Norwegian way of living, as well as the rights and obligations of every Norwegian citizen.
The course covers the following subjects defined in the curriculum for Norwegian language and civics for adult immigrants:
1. New Immigrant in Norway
2. History, geography and way of life
3. Children and family
4. Health
5. Education and learning
6. Working life
7. Democracy and the welfare society
The course participant will need to complete assignments for all seven chapters, as well as 30 minutes discussion with the teacher for each chapter. Both assignments and discussions with the teacher must be completed to obtain the course certificate. You can study in your mother tongue, but the assignments and the discussions will be in English.
Course length: There are two options for the course lengths. The regular course gives you 1-3 months to complete the course. All assignments and sessions with your tutor must be completed within this timeframe. A fast-track course is for those who need to complete the course quickly, within a minimum of 2 weeks.
